Living with Celiac Disease, sharing recipes and experiences along the way

my Story

Welcome!

I'm Mary.

Living in Kelowna, British Columbia and originally from a house of 5 children in rural New Zealand. Growing up on a sheep and cattle farm was the most exciting and fun filled childhood a kid could dream of. Roaming the countryside on horseback and living off the most amazing home grown and home cooked meals that our parents provided. This created a huge appreciation for good healthy and real food.
These days it's still (mainly) the home cooked meals and baking, combined with a love for gardening, preserves, outdoor cooking, and fermentation, including the best gluten free sourdough. I love to share my gluten free food creations and new gluten free discoveries.

Over 10 years ago I was diagnosed with celiac disease, which was initially discovered because of a low iron count, which resulted in a blood test and then an intestinal biopsy. Celiac disease runs in my family, including my two daughters and I was the first to be diagnosed.

Acoupleofceliacs originated to share a few favourite, family recipes that were converted to suit a diet safe for celiac disease and other gluten intolerances. It soon branched out to include gluten free sourdough, because it seems that everybody who cannot eat gluten for various health reasons, is always looking for really good bread. My first cookbook “Gluten-free Sourdough Baking” will be published in the spring of 2022.
